Snackcraft

I made some flash cards for Sophie with a picture of the snack, the first letter of the word in big font (96 arial), and the word(s) spelled out below.
My plan. When it is snack time, we rumage through the kitchen and find what snacks are available. Then give Sophie the pile of cards representing each snack (I have 12 options so far). She will then get to choose her snack. And hopefully she will begin to learn the letters and the words through this positive association.
And it is lesson in making choices from a list of options.

We already ask her what she wants for a snack, but the first thing off her tongue is usually "cookie" which is fine on occasion, but maybe if she saw some other options she might make other choices.

Koffee Karma

So the other day I was picking up some stuff at Target. I raomed the aisles and got the goods I went for, then wracked my mind to be sure there wasn't anything else I wanted.
Coffee!
So I swung by the little kiosk with the whole bean coffees. Since Carly and I usually drink Decaf at home I scanned the thing for the tell-tale green labels. For some reason the labels were not green, but some other color. But the word "Decaffeinated" led me to believe I found two varieties: French Roast and Colombian. So I grabbed a pound of each, noting the $5.99 price in a sticker. "Not bad" I thought.
So I get to the check out and the guy looks for a bar-code on the bag, but doesn't find one. "It said $5.99" I tell him.
"That's odd, the cash register says $8.99". "Oh well. Maybe I saw an old sticker." I reply.
"That's Okay. I'll just ring it up as Miscellaneous Merchandise, and charge you $5.99" He adds helpfully. "Score!" I think. I stuffed those full to the rim. There was probably 1.2 pounds in each.
So I get home. The next day I open the bag to make a pot, and it smells funny, like a flavored coffee. Like a fruit flavored coffee. I shrug, maybe there is some oil on the coffee or something that smells different.
OH MY GOD (Coffee)!
It was awful. I went without my morning Joe. The next day I opened the other bag (from the other bin). It too smelled of Fruity badness.
Maybe this was my punishement for trying to get a discount. Maybe this was something bigger, my punishment for drinking DeCaf. (Carly is still breast feeding so Caffeinated is a no no).
Sigh. So Rather than saving $6. We are out $12.

Big day for Sophie

Today she got into the boat at the playground all by herself this time.
And... she drank from a 'regular cup' tonight. Well a shot glass... of Soy Milk.

She also asked to use the potty tonight. She's done it before, but this was the first time she asked to do it.

More interesting, when I was talking to my mom on the phone later, I asked Sophie if she wanted to say anything to her Cool Grandma. She nodded and got the phone and said "I go potty!" and then repeated for a minute or two until my mom figured out what she was saying. I may be projecting here, but I think Sophie was really proud of herself.

I promised myself I wouldn't cry...

Additional Sophieisms

"No poke-a the eyes!" (important life lesson)
"I CAN DOOO IT!" (self confidence)

I'm not dead....yet

Been a little quiet on the blog front. My apologies. Nothing very exciting to report. I have been planning a mutants and masterminds game

See my musing about that here: academy adventures

In baby news....
Will suddenly has a mouth full of teeth! He's been a bit fussy lately, and seems interested in eating larger bits... so I guess it shouldn't be a total surprise.

For those who haven't intuited it as well. Will is also walking/hurling himself at things. Reminds me of the Laurie Anderson song lyrics "walking is just falling forward and then catching yourself." Will has half of that down great.

Sophie is getting very adventurous. She plays this game where she kneels on an ottoman or couch (she knows well enough standing is a no no). Then she sort of hops over to a couch or the ottoman (depending on her starting point). She laughs and yells "whoa, close one!" or "Careful1!" Of course, if she falls off, she laughs even more. I predict serious injuries in the future. :)

Her speech is getting more and more clear. The best part are her little idiosyncrises.
-Add "Are" to the ends of location phrases "Where daddy are?", "Here is Lovey Gray Are!"
-Pluralize everyone's name "Wills" "Mommies" "Daddies"
-Using idioms whenever possible "Here you go?" "How about this?" "Bye bye, see ya soon!"

Lastly...
Daddy (me) has broken out the tool kit.
Replaced the garbage disposal, and replaced two light switches (with Dimmers!)
